Engine & Drivetrain

This car is the perfect roadworthy track day weapon, drive it to the track on semi’s and back home when done!

The engine is the original N54 motor, similar to the Z4 35iS, originally twin turbo. Less than 1000km done since renewing thereof! Total mileage is 35,000k. It is no 300 of only 450 built.

After I bought the car, I had the engine completely rebuilt by the top engine builder of BMW and Nissan race engines, Colin Holmes – contracted by Freddie Pretorious from Fast Developments. All OEM components used to factory spec. Replaced the Borg Warner Racing 76/70 turbo, which had been damaged by a spark plug electrode due to incorrect fuel use by the previous owner, with a brand new one. It has a titanium core and turbines, and ceramic ball bearings! Boost now max 1,9 bar with high octane fuel mix.

It has a twin scroll configuration, each scroll is fed by 3 cylinders, each scroll has its own dump valve. The BW turbo has an internal dump valve and there is a separate dump valve fitted to the Aluminum charge pipe. The two dump valves operate sequentially, it emits a sound like no other!

High flow exhaust developed and built by Freddie Pretorius. Tail pipes look like standard and does not give away the actual personality of the car😅

The cylinder-head was completely reconditioned and flowed by Van Der Linde Conversions. The Vanos-cam Teflon rings was replaced recently to have crisp and effective vanos operation.

6-button Raceclutch, race pressure plate and billet light weight single-mass flywheel fitted.

Purpose built aluminum intercooler and larger E92 M3 oil cooler fitted. The conversion is exactly the same as for the endurance racing 335i engines built by Freddie. Built to last!

Aluminum race-type coolant reservoir and oil catch tanks fitted.

Complete fuel supply system overhauled – high pressure pumps, including a special additional high-volume supply pump, and plumbing redone, new coils, new vanos solenoids.

I spared no expense to ensure reliability with the high torque and power output potential of the car.

It has a 10-liter water-meth tank in the boot, water-meth mixture is added at certain boost levels to assist with keeping combustion temperatures in acceptable range. It also adds a few extra KWs.

Suspension

Fitted with KW Racing adj coilovers also combined damping and rebound adjustable, adjustable camber/caster top shock mounting plates.

Body

Body and interior are standard. Black leather with orange stitching, high quality Harman Cardon sound system, all original.

Wheels & Tires

Standard CSL-type rims, no previous damage or dings.

Tyres are Bridgestone Pilot Sport S4, excellent grip!!

The car is very drivable when cruising, no typical lag, just a strong linear buildup of boost, great tractability in all gears.

Due to the high spec clutch setup, pullaway can be tricky for a driver not used to such setup.

I have never tested top speed, but the previous owner confirmed more than 300kmh😃

Brakes

Brakes are the standrd 1M Coupé brakes, large steel disks with four-pot calipers and fitted with Endless Pads.

Take note:

Brakes, suspension and drive train from gearbox backwards, are as standard, all from the E92 V8 M3 stable.

All the standard components removed to have the conversion done, most are still available, except the original turbos and plastic charge pipe(as informed by previous owner when he gave me the boxes with parts)

The car still has its standard ECU and management, with brand new JB4 installed. JB4 has multiple programming and selection facilities of which the most important is selection between 95-octane pump fuel map(340 kW and 630Nm on hubs) and race map, where you have to add high octane fuel.

The cooling of this car is so efficient you can drive it without the fan on in town, without damaging the engine.

JB4 is great! So many options to select and play with and is activated from the steering wheel, also Bluetooth connection to the JB4 app on your phone to monitor boost, temps, AFRs, fault codes etc etc.

Reasons for sale:

– I have a serious parking space problem at my home

– I cannot enjoy the cars as I would like to due to staying far from the tracks in Gauteng

– I would like to replace them with one nice drivers car, that my sons and wife can also drive on club track days now and then

– I am done with upgrades and mods on high performance cars, I’d rather spend the money on my family

Oh yes, to sweeten the deal on the 1M, I will throw in a set of OZ Racing 18″ rims, fitted with Bridgestone semis! (Current value new over R50k)
